PCMR Receives Green Business Award for Workplace Initiatives

Park City Mountain Resort continually strives to be an environmental leader in the community. Each year as we think about improvements, we take into account how we can offset our energy uses and reduce our carbon footprint.  The new lights and snowmaking systems that are in place for the 10/11 winter season are a big part of this ongoing initiative. This past year we introduced the Eco Zone, located in the Resort plaza, designed to educate our guests on what we have done as well as what you can do for climate protection, energy savings, and waste reduction.

This year we have been awarded Utah's Green Business Award for workplace initiatives by Utah Business magazine. This award was given for "practices at the workplace that engage employees and clients to act green. Companies that provide employees with an eco-friendly workplace by adopting energy efficient technologies and industry leading practicies."

Here are just a few of the highlights from Utah Business magazine's article on Park City Mountain Resort:

• Energy reduction initiatives have reduced the resort's carbon footprint by more than 8,800 tons of CO2
• Purchase of wind energy during the past 5 years has reduced our carbon footprint by 22,000 tons
• Our team building has received the Energy Star designation from the EPA for the past 2 years
• We've reduced our snowmobile fleet by 30 percent
• PCMR uses energy-efficient snowmaking equipment
• PCMR uses bio-diesel fuel exclusively
• The 1,500 watt quartz lights on PayDay run have been replaced with 150 watt metal halide bulbs.

It is an honor to be recognized alongside these champions in environmental sustainability. I applaud Utah Business magazine for hosting a luncheon to honor these companies that was not only informative, but also inspiring.

Beat The Heat at Park City Mountain Resort

When I opened up my google homepage today, the "How to of the Day" topic was how to survive a heat wave. There is no denying that Utah is in the middle of a heat wave. We recommend taking the appropriate precaution of coming up to Park City where, as a rule, it is at least ten degrees cooler than Salt Lake City. After all an Alpine Coaster ride sounds a lot more fun than sitting on the couch with a fan in your face.

Take a hiatus from the rising temperatures and cool off on a relaxing and scenic Town Lift ride. Once you've reached the top you can seek refuge from the heat under a blanket of trees while exploring many of our hiking and mountain bike trails. Team member favorites on a hot day are a quick break at the Dip-n-dots and Snowie stands. "My favorite way to cool down on a scorcher is to grab a Snowie. The Tiger's Blood flavor is my favorite!" says PCMR team member Meisha Lawson. "I prefer a ZipRider™ break! Nothing beats the cool breeze on the chairlift ride up and the wind in your hair as you zip through the trees," says team member Jess Werner.

So as the sweltering heat sweeps Salt Lake, remember that Park City Mountain Resort is your summer oasis. We are only a 30 minute drive from Salt Lake and want to help you beat the heat!

Bert The Conqueror TV Show to Feature Alpine Coaster

The Travel Channel is set to premiere a new show on Wednesday, June 16th at 8 PM MST called "Bert The Conqueror." This new show features Bert, best known as a comedian, Bert travels the country meeting the passionate people who participate in these backyard adventures, experiencing the annual traditions that rally small towns and screaming his lungs out on thrill rides across the country. In the premiere episode Bert will ride Park City Mountain Resort's Alpine Coaster alongside Park City locals and visitors. This episode will also feature Utah's Lagoon theme park as well as The Human Sling Shot in Hobble Creek.

Earlier this Winter when the Travel Channel asked Park City Mountain Resort to be a part of the show we sent out an open call to the community to come and ride the Alpine Coaster. Thank you again to everyone who came out and supported us.

One month until scheduled opening day!

It's snowing again today, so I guess it really must be just one month away from our scheduled opening day for our upcoming Winter season! The forecast is predicting that we'll get a bit of a break from storms, but more are on the way and with temperatures starting to dip into the high 20s we hope to get our snow guns cranked up and start to give mother nature a bit of a helping hand. Keep posted as we're also planning a bunch of updates to our blog in the upcoming days and weeks as well.
