Answers to Park Questions

I will make this a quick blog for tonight, regarding new features and answering a few questions.

The new features in Kings Crown are on the bottom section, they are a double tube down flat down, a flat up flat ledge and a small 10 foot or so single tube urban rail.  Thanks for the question Alex.  Someone asked me why the bottom section is spaced closer together.  My answer is to create a section of the park that flows smoothly and quickly.  The bottom section isn't really built so that you can hit one feature and stop.  It is built so you can hit 3 or 4 features, then stop at the bottom and watch your friends make their run.  Hopefully that answered that question for whoever asked it earlier today on the hill.  Matt asked the next question, about where the night pipe on payday went.  I asked the mang in charge and he said that for this year, it just wasn't in the budget.  So no night pipe this year, but who knows if it might make a comeback in future seasons.

Also, the cat drivers built us a few platforms last night and we spent a few hours today placing and digging in rails on lower payday.  Hoping all goes well tonight, lower payday is expected to open tomorrow (tuesday the 9th) with the following features: down ledge, 15' up ledge, c-box, up/down box.  We will add a few more features in lower payday throughout the season so keep an eye out for them.

The Parks The Parks

Last night was a busy evening, a "stay after school" night as we tend to call it.  Let me explain a bit more.  The resort closes all lifts except for Payday and First Time by 4pm (Payday and First Time are our night skiing lifts) and then sends out patrollers to do sweeps.  To get a snowcat down to the lower mountain, we have to wait for second sweeps to finish and then send out the cats.  To do any work in Kings Crown we have to get patrol escorts to escort the cats through payday, an open run for night skiing.  Once we get the cats in the park we can begin to build mounds of snow for the features, transport features on the blade of the cats to the locations we need them, place them, dig them in and level them out...

Now that I have posted an essay, I will continue with the main point to the blog.  There are new features in Kings Crown and on Payday.  If you would like to see an interactive map of Kings Crown minus the new features from last night, go to www.pcride.com. The new features on Payday will be open for your riding pleasure tomorrow, saturday the 6th.  Also, watch for a little working over of the lower Payday park in the coming days.  New mounds of snow and new features sure to please.

Terrain Parks are all open!

We opened up the King's Crown terrain park last weekend with 6 jumps and 8 jibs and it's been getting a ton of use. Mike E of our terrain park crew took this sequence yesterday on the hip jump - about 60 feet of air (click on the image for a larger version)! Now that we've got the parks open, we're working on getting the terrain park maps for Pick 'N Shovel and King's Crown updated on pcride.com and should have those done in the next couple days. Also, to keep everyone updated, we're planning on getting back into Jonesy's after the MLK weekend and build it up to superpark status, so stayed tuned for that info...we'll don't have long to wait to see what our park guys have up their sleeves!

Terrain Park Update

Here's the plan for our terrain parks right as of right now. Please bear in mind that we're making snow as conditions permit and if Mother Nature provides some natural precip that will obviously change things as well. As of now here's where we're at with the parks and pipe:

Superpipe - we're well into the process of building the pipe but we need more snow...we're hoping to have the pipe up by the end of next week but we need to have good snowmaking temps to hit this goal.
PayDay - OPEN and we've got 7 features up in the mid and lower PayDay Jib Park.
Pick 'N Shovel - either this or Jonesy's will be next to open and they'll both have some jumps!
Jonesy's - this will initially have some smaller hits to start, but as we get more snow in there we'll start building it up.
King's Crown - we've blown some snow in here but we need a bunch more, but right now we're concentrating on Pick and Jonesy's.
Homerun features - we have six features in lower Homerun which we'll keep up until we get the parks built up and open.

So to summarize, we're building up the parks and pipe as quickly as we can, but realistically we need more snow and or cold temps for snowmaking to get things really moving along.
