Tonight is a night that will go down in history of one of the greatest events we've hosted at Park City Mountain Resort. Thousands of spectators showed up to cheer on the athletes as they tried to make their Olympic dreams come true on the final stop of the Grand Prix tour.
Two of my favorite people in the world, Park City All-Star Shaun White and 2002 Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark (who won USA's first gold medal that year in the Eagle Superpipe), will headline the team. Louie Vito and Scotty Lago will make their first Winter Games debut in Vancouver. The 2006 gold and silver medalists, Hannah Teter and Gretchen Bleiler, round out the six members named tonight. The United States Ski and Snowboarding Association will name the final two team members on Monday, January 25, 2010.
Shaun threw down another huge run tonight, besting last night's score of 49.0, to get the highest score ever given in a Grand Prix competition of 49.5. After the competition was complete the enthusiastic crowd sang along to Thirty Seconds to Mars. It did get a bit rowdy at times but I think everyone had a good time!
We are honored to have had the opportunity to host this historic event. It was incredible! We'd love to hear what you thought about the event. If you weren't here, you can watch it on NBC on Sunday, January 24, at 1 pm MST.
