It's finally starting to look like winter in Park City and it sure felt like it today too...when I got up this morning it was in the single digits, brrrr!! It may have been chilly but my Minnesota roots were showing and I was soon out the door and headed to the mountain. Once there I enjoyed several runs down Homerun and PayDay in with the beautiful scenery of the fresh snow and I definitely noticed how much the turning is improved by a half foot plus of Utah's finest powder.
The other benefit of the cold, is that it is allowing our snowmaking crew to crank out some great base snow. They're currently blowing on: Claim Jumper, the Summit area, Pick 'N Shovel, Quarter Load, Muckers, and Silver Queen. With this and the new snow we hope to see tomorrow, we are looking at opening more terrain mid-week. This is dependant upon what sort of snowfall we get in the next day or two as well as how much snow we're able to make. Check back soon, because we'll be posting here as soon as we know what we'll be opening!
One other thing that this wintry weather reminds me of is that the Holidays are just around the corner. As a matter of fact, Santa arrives at the Town Lift Plaza, just six days from now, on Saturday, December 20. If you haven't been up for that, it's an awful lot of fun for the whole family, particularly when Santa's sleigh comes over the top of the Town runs. Check our calendar of events for details on this as well as our traditional Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade.
[edit - The photo was taken around lunchtime today and is looking down at the top of the new Crescent Lift from upper Homerun, yes that is snowmaking happening up there too!]
Hi from los angeles,
Just got back to la from PCMR yesterday (I am one of your racers) and was pleased to see that it is dumping rain here. We're being hit big time with a storm -- hope it hits the salt lake in its prime!
see you next weekend for the holidays.
Eric replies:
pacer521 - bring it on, see you next weekend!!!

How can ur lift tickets rite now be so expensive, when only 2% is open? Will at least 30% be open by Dec 19?
Eric replies:
Jojo, ticket pricing is based upon a number of factors, including the fact that it takes a certain number of employees and resources to open the resort. That said, we do have 4 of 16 lifts open (25%) and 6 out of 107 runs (about 6%) and are opening terrain as quickly as we can. Because openings are dependent upon the weather, I don't know how much we'll be able to open by Friday, but I do know that we'll post it here as soon as we know!

Great to see the season beginning to take shape.
On a sad note, just heard about the unfortunate avalanche incident at Snowbird. Thoughts and prayers out to the family. Let's all be careful out in the back country and patient while our ski safety folks ensure the conditions are safe for all.
Eric replies:
Eddy, we all echo your thoughts.
I can personally vouch that our snow safety team is carefully monitoring conditions here on our side of the Wasatch.
Safe turning everyone!

with it being so cold and them getting snow made in pick n shovel do you think they will get it open soon
Eric replies:
They're working on both Pick 'N Shovel and the Superpipe which takes a ton of snow...I'd hope that they can open in the next week or two, but they're working as quickly as possible. We'll be sure to keep you posted Layne!
