I'm going to take a break this week and introduce our Events and Sponsorship Manager, Meisha - here's her first step into blogging:
"Did you know that 40 percent of all U.S. urban travel happens within 2 miles of where people live? Nearly all of that travel is by car! Think about the amount of carbon that is emitted from people firing up the car just to run out for a loaf of bread or a cup of coffee.
From a company committed to protecting the places where we love to play, Clif Bar is out to ask the question: what if once a week people replaced a trip under 2 miles with a bike instead of a car?
Use your bike instead of your car once a week - pretty simple, right? Get out, get some fresh air, use your natural energy and save some cash on gas - we call it the 2 Mile Challenge.
Bike Once a Week, Fight Climate Change. www.2milechallenge.com"
Late last week we received a call from our resort partner Clif Bar, wondering if we would be interested in hosting a stop on the 2 Mile Challenge tour this week. After reviewing the goals of the tour we decided that the 2 Mile Challenge fit perfectly in line with our Park City Mountain Resort green initiatives and welcomed the opportunity to host the event. The folks at Clif Bar tout the bus is fully interactive, and boy is it.
Matt, the tour manager, gave me a great tour (and a few Clif Bars)! The bus itself was originally built in the 1950’s and has logged over 3 million miles. There have been a just a few renovations since the 50’s and the bus itself runs completely on bio diesel fuel. Immediately upon entering Matt showed me the fact wall, where you learn about how nations around the globe do their part to fight climate change. After realizing what biking once a week was able to do for the environment, Matt helped me pimp out my bike! The interactive computer display went through everything you could possibly need for your bike! No more excuses, they even make dog carriers for your bike! With my new bike built, the next step was to find where all I could go within the 2 Mile Challenge. Living right in Park City, I can basically hit anywhere within city limits.

Sure, gas prices are pretty high right now, but saving money is only one of the reasons we all need to step it up and take the 2 Mile Challenge. If biking isn’t your thing, walking, taking advantage of public transportation and carpooling are other ways you can fight climate change. Check out 2milechallenge <http://www.2milechallenge> .com to find out if the tour will be in your neighborhood and to sign up for your own 2 Mile Challenge. Don't forget to stock up on a few Clif Bars for the ride!

Thanks for the great post Meisha!
Wow... bummer, would have been great to know ahead of time about that event. I would have loved to have stopped by. Oh well, glad it was successful.
Eric replies:
