Ok, so you are hopefully aware that we're opening for the winter season tomorrow with Payday Lift and Homerun! I thought I'd jot down a couple quick tips and ideas for everyone to make sure everything goes smoothly for you if you're planning to head up tomorrow.
- If you haven't picked up your season pass yet and still need to stop by the pass office, please be patient - the line will most likely be long. Our ticket office been open daily for the past several weeks to try to alleviate lines, but there will be some waiting tomorrow.
- Make sure you bring all those little items that are essential to your day on the mountain, I'm talking about both boots, your poles (if you ski), your googles, hat, gloves and if you're a local your pass! Trust me, it always seems to take a day or two before I can seem to remember everything I need.
- Above all, come ready to have a good time, there may be a lot of brown all around, but where we're opening it will be a long and wide swath of white with only more to come (we are just the 2nd resort in Utah to open this season thanks to our slope maintenance team).
- A great way to get a feeling for what it's like up on the mountain is to check out our live, controllable cams and see how much snow there really is, if it's sunny up top or just to see if you recognize anyone up on the mountain. Visit our mountain cams page and give it a try.
Here's a quick snowmaking update, we're just finishing off lower Homerun and in addition we're making snow on Payday and First Time runs with upper Homerun next on the list. Some locals may have noticed that we aren't always running the fan guns over by Eagle and First Time lifts all the time, we're doing this in order to concentrate our resources in areas that need the most snow for opening.
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and I look forward to seeing you skiing and riding tomorrow!
When you say no black terrain for awhile, how long do you mean? Will black terrain be open over Christmas Break?
Eric replies:
Joe, we're planning on moving to the upper mountain with our snowmaking soon. We're currently making snow on Payday, First Time, Pick 'N Shovel and Treasure Hollow with Upper Home Run and Silver Hollow next on the list. Once we get to the Silverlode area we will be moving to Dynamite (a black), but many of our black level runs are dependent upon natural snowfall for us to open them - keep 'praying for snow'! We definitely push to get as much terrain open as we possibly can prior to Christmas-time.

Where does your water you use come from? Are you on city water? I know that would stink cause of the water bill you would get. I don't see any lakes nearby for you to pump water from.
Also, what is the difference between manmade snow and snow that falls from the sky?
Eric replies:
Luke, the water we use for our snowmaking comes from the ponds located by Hotel Park City and is not 'city water.'
The main difference between natural and man-made snow is the shape of the crystals, with man-made snow crystals being much more dense than natural snow crystals. Either way it's something white to slide on!

Is there a list of which runs have snowmaking? Also when when do you think you will start making snow on some black terrain, if the temps stay down?
Eric replies:
Brendan, we don't have a list online of runs with snowmaking - but we have been listing where we've been making snow as well as where we're planning to blow snow on this blog. In terms of black terrain with snowmaking we most likely won't get to any for awhile, although hopefully Mother Nature will help us out with some natural white stuff soon too.

NO BOXES OR RAILS? Nice opening for Transworlds #1 Park Resort.
Even small features would do.
Corporate decision I bet. Park Crew would do it for us if someone let them.
Eric replies:
Pat, if there were any natural snow or even a bit more time for snowmaking things would be different for opening. Wait just a little more as there are some great features that for this season.
