Jib features in Jonsey's and Pick N Shovel Parks

Jonesy's and Pick N  Shovel are both looking great and packed with features.  I went out today to take a look at some of the new lines and features and it looks like a lot of riders are enjoying them both.  The four jumps in Pick N Shovel build up in size and are really floaty.  At the bottom you can hit the new S-Box, take a peak here.  The superpipe is open and looking awesome thanks to the hard work of our pipe cutter and terrain park crew.

After a couple laps through Jonsey's I made my way up the hill to check out Jonsey's.  Rider's were out in masses today, making runs the park as well as hiking individual features.  A few guys were working on new tricks on the flat-up-flat box rail and the last couple of boxes at the end of the park too.  When you start at the top of the run you can hit a few different jib lines or the jumps on rider's right. 

 

We are continuing to make snow and hopefully open up King's Crown Park and more features in the other parks later this week.  Keep checking the blog or park updates at pcride.com.

Park and Halfpipe Update

Lower Jonesy's and the Halfpipe will be open tomorrow, Christmas Day! There will be two to three jumps in Jonesy's and ten to eleven jibs up. It will start off as a small to medium park.  The halfpipe is looking amazing! We are bummed that Homerun will close, but, as many of you already know, it's always been a temporary park year after year. We have to make room for the volume of people that will be coming through Homerun after Christmas and we usually take it down once we have some of the other parks up.

We will add some jib features to Payday by the weekend and we will be adding a couple more jibs to Pick n' Shovel including the new S-Box.

With all the new features up we will have well over 30 including jumps and jibs on the mountain.

We start blowing snow in king's Crown today! Depending on temps we hope to have it open some time between between Jan. 5th and Jan. 7th.

Park Update

Pick n' Shovel will be open Sunday. We will have 5 to 6 jumps. If there are six jumps it will go as follows:

35' to 40ish for the last jump.

 

This jump line will run consecutively. We will include some jibs as well.

These are true sizes. This park will be sized down once we have King's Crown and Jonesy's open.

Homerun will be the small park for the time being and Payday will continue to have the 6 medium size jumps along with some new jib features to be announced later in the week.

 

We finally got really good temps this last week and we are still behind time wise with snowmaking. Despite this we will have three parks open by Sunday! The new natural snow has helped tremendously with with mountain, but it really doesn't do anything for the parks. We are trying to get up everything asap. We will move snow guns to either King's Crown or Jonesy's next to blow snow for one of these parks. I'll keep you all updated.

The pipe will open either Tuesday or Wed. We may have to fine tune it on Tuesday...

It's a bummer that Payday is closed until Sunday, but there is nothing I can do! Hang in there...Pick will be open soon!

Park Crew

This year several members of our park crew are returning from last year, well several of them have been around for many years, which means they have park maintenance pretty dialed!  I had the chance to hang out with them in the Homerun park earlier this week and they taught me a few things about their daily duties.  I'd say they're doing a pretty good job so far this year keeping the features  maintained. The parks are super fun, and constantly exceeding expectations based on the conditions we've been given so far this season. 

Here are a few photos we got earlier this week of some of the crew "working".  We'll get more introductions as the season progresses and some action shots.

JP is a lead this year, and he likes his red boots.  I think he likes to snowboard too, but most importantly he is really handy with the rake. 

This is Joe, he used to be an instructor in our Snowboard School. 

I think he's happy with his career change! 

 

The last introduction for today is Keiran, he is a skier and a lead this year.

Saturday's Raffle

We want to thank everyone who joined us for the Saturday's "Raffle" event.  Even though the competition was cancelled, and we had near blizzard conditions, it seemed like the  masses were out and everyone was stepping up.  We want to thank our sponsors for all their help and hooking everyone one up - Quiksilver, DC Shoes, Red Bull, Nixon, The Click, Blindside Snowboard Shop, Milo Sport and everyone else.  Thanks to Arkade Mag for all their help on the event too. 

It began snowing on Saturday and hasn't let up too much since.  With the new snow, and cold temps to make a lot more, we're expecting to open up more terrain this week.  The terrain park crew is hard at work over at the Pick 'N Shovel park and Eagle Superpipe too.  Check in on the site for updates on additional terrain openings and when these parks will be open.

Saturday's Kickoff Event

In order to provide the best possible experiance for all skiers and riders at Park City Mountain Resort, the rail jam, Saturday's Warrior, originally scheduled for December 13, has been cancelled. Registration fees will be refunded entirely. However, The Homerun Terrain Park will still be the place to be on Saturday, full of music, raffles, Park City All-Stars and more. Through out the day, stop by the tents at the bottom of The Homerun Terrain Park for a chance to win amazing prizes just for hanging out! Starting at 11 am and continued every hour, on the hour, until 3 pm, there will be an opportunity to win prizes donated by Arkade Mag, Quicksilver, DC, Burton, Milo, Blindside, and The Click. Park City Mountain Resort now has 21 features including a number of 15 foot kickers, hand rails, fun boxes and more. Here's a peek at the team taking a few runs today during lunch...

 

 

 

 

Mother Nature is trying to work Her magic

 We received a few inches of new snow up top last night, and it continues to snow this morning. We are making snow on PayDay, Treasure Hollow, First Time and the bottom of Bonanza chairlift. We're tyring to open PayDay run this weekend, but now we really need Mother Nature to kick into hight gear. Dan Pope had this to say:

"High pressure will begin to move westward into the Eastern Pacific.... allowing for several weather systems to push over Northern Utah between the 11th an 12th. Another storm will move into the area on the 15th and 16th... with yet another storm closing in on Utah about the 19th."   

That's like music to my hears. Want to hear more? Joe Nicholls had this to say:

"A weak cold from is shifting south across the area and we'll see some light snow or snow 

showers. A couple of quiet weather days expected through the weekend with temperature inversions on the lower part of the mountain in the mornings. The next cold front will move across the area on Monday bringing another chance of snow or snow showers. We're beginning to see more changes in the wavelengths of the weather pattern, and this should result in the high pressure shifting westward off the West Coast. This will increase the chance of unsettled weather and cooler temperatures by around mid month" 

We all remember last year... it started out slow, but it ended as a near-record snowfall year! It snowed from January thru March with few little sunny days. All it takes is one big storm cycle to turn things around. Think, pray, dance meditate, whatever you do to make the snow fly!

As a reminder...

We have a new event this season for amateur  skiers and riders called Saturday's Warrior, a rail jam taking place on December 13, 2008. Saturday’s Warrior is open to both male skiers and riders and female skiers and riders of all ages. Participants will be judged by the Park City All-Stars on style and technique.

Awards will be provided by DC, Quicksilver, Burton, Milo, Blindside, Nixon, Arkade Magazine and The Click. The Best Trick in male and female ski will win two VIP tickets to the Freestyle World Cup halfpipe competition and the male and female best trick snowboard competitors will win a day at the DC lab.

PC presents: Saturday's Warrior December 13th, 2008.

Park City Mountain Resort is kicking of the 2008/2009 winter season with an amateur rail jam event. Men, women, skiers and riders are all invited to compete. Everyone will have the chance to stake their claim as Saturday's Warrior on December 13th, 2008. We'll be rolling out the PC All Stars as competition judges. $32 lift tickets will be available for registered competitors on the day of the event. The location of the event will be decided depending on snowfall; however, the jam will feature a set of three individual rails and fun boxes. Prizes for top warriors have been provided by Quicksilver, DC, Nixon, Burton, Arkade Mag, Milo, Blindside and The Click. Ready... Set... Go!

PC had a successful opening day. We all owe the park crew a round of beers for sure! A small park has been set up towards the bottom of Homerun, rider's right. The set up includes a variety of different features including a picnic table, a shot gun barrel, a kinked "tubular pipe", an up box, and  a ride-on rainbow box (my personal favorite). There are 12 features total, everything can be hit in a consecutive line, and finishing off the run is a 10 foot kicker. Many are saying PC's current set up is the best park ever seen on opening day! Get up here and check it out! As of right now, there are no plans to open any other runs until more snow falls. Looking at the forecast for this week, we may see some flurries on Tuesday afternoon. Here is a sneak peek of future set ups...
