Spring Powder Day!
I thought that perhaps we might be coasting into springtime with some blue sky days to ski corn snow and hang out on the decks around the mountain for awhile...I thought wrong!!! I awoke this morning to a good half foot of snow in my driveway and as I made my way up the mountain there was up to a foot or more in spots. Scott's Bowl was nearly bottomless and after I got a few face shots on my first run down I had to head back up for a 2nd run, which was just as good as the first. It was hard to take time away from the riding to get video, but here's a quick sample of what I was able to compile - I don't think it does the day justice, but take a peek and see what the last day of March was like up here!

nice video ! great representation of the recent powder. Enjoy the last week :) see you there.

My husband and I had a very disappointing day today. We bought passes to ski today and wanted to take our 18 month old with us for one more day of skiing before the seasons end. First we were told that we couldn't take her in a kelty backpack on the lift (which is what we have done at another local resort), but that was ok with us because we have put skis on her before. So we talked with information and they said we could rent skis for her and take her on the lift, but that we just had to pick up a (free)pass for her at the ticket window. We rented the skis and boots and headed to the ticket window, only to find out that she needs to be 2 years old to ride the lift. Is there no skiing options at PC for a 18 month old? Please explain the reasons for this? And why is there nothing on the PC website under ski safety that would give us information before heading up for the day? I used to volunteer patrol up at PC and don't see any reason why there would be a problem doing a lift evac. with an 18 month old in a backpack. In fact I think it would be easier that getting a 2 year old out of a lift. Just a little frustrated and curious? Here is the link to see our little one on skis http://bracanwilliams.blogspot.com/2008/03/youngest-skiier-ever.html
Eric replies:
Wow!!! Rachel, little Lucy looks amazing in those photos. Unfortunately we do have a policy that limits the age of those allowed on our lifts to 2 and over, here's what it says:
Children who are riding the chairlifts at Park City Mountain Resort must be at least 2 years of age and be able to load, ride and unload without being carried. They must also be wearing skis or other alpine sliding devices. Guests will not be allowed to access the chairlifts with a child in a carrier such as a backpack or chest pack. The purpose of this policy is for the safety of the child in the unlikely event of a lift evacuation or injury to the adult.
I apologize that this was omitted from our site and I will be sure to put it up today!

Forecast looks like highs in the 50's much of the weekend and early next week. Assuming that holds true, how's the riding likely to be? How does a stretch of warmish weather affect the runs? I've been to PCMR many times, but never in spring conditions. Not sure what to expect if I decide to surrender my hard earned paychecks to Delta and Silver King Hotel to come out for the (wiping the tears from my eyes) last week of the season.

Andy, the runs towards the base will most likely be 'mashed potatoes', but runs off the upper mountain will typically be a bit firm in the morning and then as they get sun you should find some great 'corn' type skiing and riding. You do need to be aware of the different aspects of the mountain and try to find runs that are just starting to get sun as it moves across the sky to get the best spring skiing experience - check this post out for some more specific tips:

Spring conditions are my second favorite type of skiing and riding, with a big helping of light Utah powder being my favorite (of course)!

Twas an amazing pow day for the end of season. But heres my question, with a over a 100 inch base with 2 weeks in the season to go, WHY cant you guys keep the resort open longer for us local guys? Right now we have more snow then we did at the peak of the season last year and it seems really silly to let that all go to waste.
Eric replies:
Steve, I'm just as sorry as you are to see the winter season come to a close, but we do need time to get ready for our summer opening just 5 weeks later and we'll be posting soon about some of our projects for next season that we'll need to get a head start on.
